Liu Haixing Meets with UK Cross-party Parliamentary Delegation

Yangzhou, May 26th—Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with the UK cross-party parliamentary delegation. The delegation was in China to attend the 14th China-UK Senior Leadership Forum. 


Liu noted, in January this year, President Xi Jinping met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his visit to China, providing strategic guidance for developing a long-term and stable comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. China stands ready to work with the UK to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, adhere to mutual respect, openness and cooperation, exchanges and mutual learning, and mutual benefit and win-win results, and maintain and consolidate the sound development momentum of bilateral relations. Inter-party relations are an important part of China-UK relations. The CPC attaches importance to developing relations with the UK Labour Party, the Conservative Party and other political parties. It is ready to further strengthen high-level exchanges and cooperation in youth affairs with the UK, make good use of mechanisms such as the China-UK Senior Leadership Forum, conduct in-depth and candid dialogue, drive exchanges and cooperation across various sectors of the two societies, and continuously enhance mutual understanding and trust, so as to make greater contributions to the development of China-UK relations.  


David Lidington, former Minister for the Cabinet Office and President of the Great Britain-China Centre (GBCC), said, the UK and China share extensive common interests and face many common challenges. The UK is committed to developing a long-term and stable comprehensive strategic partnership with China. It stands ready to engage in constructive and candid dialogue with China from a long-term perspective, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning of experience on state governance and administration, deepen cooperation in areas such as economy, trade and investment, properly manage differences, enhance mutual trust, and better promote the development of UK-China relations. 

Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, Zhao Yan, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Peter Wilson, UK Ambassador to China, and others attended the meeting.
