Liu Haixing Meets with John L. Thornton, Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asia Society

Beijing, June 10thLiu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with John L. Thornton, Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asia Society of the US. 


Liu noted that last month, President Xi Jinping met with President Donald Trump in Beijing, and jointly established a new positioning of a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, providing strategic guidance for the development of China-US relations in the next stage. China and the US should be partners rather than rivals. China stands ready to work with the US to fully and accurately implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, expand practical cooperation in various fields, properly handle differences and sensitive issues, strengthen communication and dialogue through platforms including China-US Track 1.5 Dialogue, and ensure that the constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stabilitydelivers tangible results. 

Thornton noted that US-China relations are of great importance. The positive interactions between the two heads of state have provided important strategic support for bilateral relations. He said that the Asia Society and he himself are willing to continue playing an active role in promoting dialogue and cooperation between the two countries and advancing the stable development of bilateral relations.
