2026.09.22 / Source:

Wuhan, September 21st—Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended here today the opening ceremony of the Commemoration of the International Day of Peace 2026. In his address, Liu put forward three proposals on safeguarding peace:

First, uphold the people-centered purpose and principle. Peace is not the privilege of a minority, still less a gift from the strong, but a right to which every country and all peoples are equally entitled. The world's people call for peace. We should actively respond to the people's yearning for peace, fully safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, and ensure they are free from the scourge of war and can live with dignity and decency.

Second, stay committed to the path of peaceful development. China will continue to unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development and calls on all countries to jointly uphold peaceful development. We should respect the principles of sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, respect the social systems and development paths independently chosen by the people of each country, and refrain from interfering in other countries' internal affairs. We should build consensus through equal consultation and resolve differences through dialogue and negotiation, oppose the arbitrary use or threat of force, do more to promote peace and stability, and jointly safeguard an international environment conducive to peaceful development.

Third, practice the spirit of solidarity and coordination. Multilateralism was born for the cause of peace and development. We should unite under the banner of multilateralism, follow the overriding trend toward greater democracy in international relations, uphold a global governance vision of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, insist that global affairs be discussed together by all countries and that international rules be written and upheld by all countries together, and work to build a more just and equitable global governance system. With an eye to the common security interests of all countries, we should jointly advance security governance, jointly address traditional and non-traditional security risks, continuously expand areas of cooperation and innovate cooperation methods, and pursue peace and security through cooperation.
