Beijing, September 1st—Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Peter Wilson, the newly-appointed Ambassador of the UK to China.
Lu welcomed Peter Wilson on his assumption of the new post in China. He said, last year, President Xi Jinping had phone calls and met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer successively, leading China-UK relations onto the right track of improvement and development. We are willing to work with the UK to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, enhance communication and dialogue, focus on practical cooperation, properly handle differences, and promote the healthy and stable development of China-UK relations. At present, the international situation is complex and volatile. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and major economies in the world, China and the UK should adhere to true multilateralism and strengthen communication and coordination within the framework of the UN and other multilateral institutions. The CPC is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with major political parties of the UK, enhance mutual understanding, and hopes that the Embassy of the UK in China will continue to provide active support.
Peter Wilson said, the UK is committed to developing a long-term, stable and strategic UK-China relationship. The UK is willing to work with China to take the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries as the guidance, adhere to mutual respect, strengthen dialogue, deepen practical cooperation, seek common ground while reserving differences, and promote the development of both countries. As permanent members of the UN Security Council, the UK and China should jointly safeguard free trade and the multilateral system. It is very important to have a deep understanding of the CPC. The Embassy of the UK in China stands ready to continue to provide active support for exchanges between political parties of the UK and China.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
