Beijing, May 22nd—The International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) held an activity themed Meeting IDCPC here today. Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, together with a delegation of the Max Baucus Institute led by Max Baucus, former U.S. Senator and Ambassador to China, visited the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and held discussions. 

Lu said, on May 14, President Xi Jinping met with U.S. President Donald Trump during his state visit to China. The two sides agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, providing strategic guidance for bilateral relations. China and the U.S. should jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and promote the healthy, stable and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations. He expressed the hope that through this visit, the delegation members would experience a real China firsthand, and by touring the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, better understand the journey China had traveled, the historical origins of China’s policy propositions, including its commitment to peaceful development, firm defense of international fairness and justice, and active efforts in promoting a community with a shared future for humanity, as well as the historical context of the Taiwan question. History has repeatedly shown that China and the U.S. have united and collaborated at critical junctures of humanity’s destiny, joining hands to address global challenges. He hoped that the younger generation would carry forward the traditional friendship between China and the U.S., enhance mutual understanding, and contribute to China-U.S. relations and world peace. Lu also thanked Ambassador Baucus and the Max Baucus Institute for the active efforts in advancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges and youth friendship between China and the U.S. 

Baucus stated, the U.S. side speaks highly of the important outcomes of the meeting between the two heads of state, and stands ready to work with China to promote steady and sound development of U.S.-China relations. Despite differences in history, culture and political systems, the two countries share similar experiences of resisting foreign aggression. Regardless of the divergences, the two major countries with comparable strength must find a path to coexistence and cooperation, which benefits both nations and the world. The Max Baucus Institute will continue to facilitate communication and exchanges between the youth of the two countries to enhance mutual understanding and friendship. The delegation members said that most of them were visiting China for the first time. Through this trip, they have not only witnessed China’s contemporary development achievements but also gained a deeper understanding of the history of China and the U.S. fighting side by side. They expressed the readiness to continue contributing to U.S.-China friendship and world peace. 

During the visit, the delegation members listened attentively to the explanation and paused frequently to view the exhibits. At the discussion session, Lu answered questions from the delegation members on China’s development, domestic and foreign policies, the Taiwan question, and China-U.S. relations, in a friendly and lively atmosphere.
