Thematic Briefing on China's Ethnic Policy and the Promotion of Unity and Solidarity Among Ethnic Groups: Practice and Achievements in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Held in Urumchi

Urumchi, February 27th—The Thematic Briefing on China's Ethnic Policy and the Promotion of Unity and Solidarity Among Ethnic Groups: Practice and Achievements in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, co-hosted by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee, was held here. More than 200 foreign guests of nearly 50 political parties from 30 countries attended the thematic briefing.

Chen Quanguo, Secretary of the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee, said in his speech that the ethnic groups in Xinjiang, together with the people of all ethnic groups, constitute a community of a shared future. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core has attached great importance to the work in Xinjiang. Xinjiang fully implements the ethnic policy, firmly upholds ethnic unity, fully respects and protects the freedom of religious belief of the people of all ethnic groups, promotes high-quality development, and vigorously safeguards and improves people's livelihood. Standing at a new historical starting point, we will fully implement the CPC Central Committee’s strategy of governing Xinjiang, and work hard to build a united, harmonious, prosperous, culturally advanced and secure Xinjiang.

Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, expressed that it is a common task for governments and political parties of all countries, including China, to properly handle ethnic relations and promote national unity. General Secretary Xi Jinping has pointed out that ethnic unity is the lifeline of people from all ethnic groups and a cornerstone of Xinjiang's development and progress, as well as the common will of over 1.3 billion Chinese people. Under the new circumstances, we need to uphold the lifeline of ethnic unity, strengthen the sense of the Chinese nation as a community, achieve common prosperity and development, strengthen institutional safeguards, and strengthen the leadership of the party. We are ready to enhance exchanges of experience with political parties of all countries on relevant state governance and administration.

Mahmoud El-Sharif, First Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament; Fazle Rabbi Miah, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament; Doğu Perinçek, Chairman of the Patriotic Party of Turkey; and Aleksei Leskin, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation delivered speeches respectively. They noted that Xinjiang has made remarkable achievements in ethnic unity, economic development and other areas. They are ready to enhance exchanges of experience on state governance and administration with China, promote cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative to achieve common development.

At the briefing, cadres of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, cadres from pairing-assistance project to Xinjiang and enterprise representatives also shared their personal experiences of participating in ethnic unity, common development, openness and cooperation. Representatives from relevant departments of central state organs and from all walks of life in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region also attended the briefing.
