BEIJING, Jan. 14th -- Wang Jiarui, minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here this afternoon with Romano Prodi, former prime minister of Italy and former president of the European Commission.

Wang spoke highly of the role Prodi has played in promoting the relations of Italy and the European Union as a whole with China and expressed appreciation for his active support for the collaboration between prominent Italian and European think-tanks and China Centre for Contemporary World Studies (CCCWS). The two also exchanged ideas on international issues of shared interest.

The former Italian Prime Minister is visiting China at the invitation of the CCCWS.
