BERLIN, May 24 -- Vice-chairman Su Rong of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) attended on May 23rd in Leipzig, as CPC representative, a ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and met with leaders from the party.

Su conveyed to SPD's Chairman Sigmar Gabriel greetings from CPC's General Secretary Xi Jinping and delivered the letter of congratulations from the CPC Central Committee to the Federal Board of the SPD.

On the sideline of the activity, Su also met with SPD's chancellor candidate Peer Steinbrück, leader of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag Frank-Walter Steinmeier, SPD's Secretary-General Andrea Nahles and Chairman of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Kurt Beck.

About 300 international representatives from over 80 countries attended the ceremony of the SPD. Also present were dignitaries including French President Francois Hollande, German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel.
