BEIJING, July 30 -- At the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), a delegation led by Chuka Umunna, Brtish Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills visited China from July 23rd to 27th. During his stay in Beijing, Umunna attended the 2013 Understanding and Cooperation Dialogue sponsored by the Chinese Association for International Understanding, and met, together with other foreign delegates to the Dialogue, with Li Yuanchao, member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and vice president of the People’s Republic of China. The delegation visited the IDCPC, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Commerce, China Investment Corporation, China Mobile, China Entrepreneur Club, and Peking University. Apart from its program in Beijing, the delegation also visited the Binhai New Area in Tianjin, and met with vice mayor Zong Guoying.
The Chinese side briefed Umunna about China’s commitment to peace, development and win-win cooperation, the measures adopted in the efforts to accelerate the shift of economic growth mode and to promote economic, political, social, cultural and ecological progress and the achievements made on this front so far. The Chinese side also expressed willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, promote mutual learning, and work for further development in China-UK relations.
Umunna spoke highly of the bilateral relationship, stressing that the Labour Party, no matter in government or in opposition, always highly values its relationship with China, and therefore will keep working for more cooperation between the two countries and further development of the China-UK relationship. He also said that the visit had proven successful, for it served the purposes of increasing mutual understanding and promoting bilateral cooperation, especially in business.
