Chinese, Australian officials meet to discuss bilateral ties

BEIJING, April 10 -- Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met with Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr on the afternoon of 10th in Beijing.

Wang spoke highly of the outcomes of the Australian Prime Minister Gillard's visit to China, and expressed hope that the two sides can well implement the important agreements reached by the national leaders, accumulate positive energy in the development of China-Australia relations, endeavor to build a new type of relationship featuring mutual respect, mutual trust and win-win cooperation, and bring more benefits to the people of the Asia Pacific.

Carr said that Australia's future stands with Asia, and that developing relations with China is of critical importance to Australia. He expressed the willingness of the Australian side to work with China and promote concrete cooperation in various areas, riding the momentum of the upgrade of relationship to a Strategic Partnership, with a view to promoting peace, stability and development in the Asia Pacific.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
