Beijing, February 26th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee met here today with Stephen John Hadley, former Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the US Institute of Peace.

Song introduced the main spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. He stressed that the 19th CPC National Congress held in 2017 was of important significance to China and the world. General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed to promote the building of a community of shared future for mankind. China is willing to build a new model of major-country relationship with the US based on the principles of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation. The two sides need to view China-US relations from a historical and global perspective. Since the release of Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America 40 years ago, China-US relations, despite some twists and turns, has always been progressing, proving that the long-term, sound and stable development of bilateral relations not only accords with the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but conforms to the trend of the times. Both sides should particularly enhance understanding of respective culture, reduce misunderstanding and misjudgment, and increase strategic mutual trust.

Hadley expressed that General Secretary Xi put forward in the report to the 19th CPC National Congress that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. China today is different from its past, and so is the world. In the new era, both the US and China need to carry out more strategic communication and enhance understanding of each other’s strategic intentions, in a bid to jointly advance bilateral relations for sound and stable development.

Both sides also exchanged views on China-US party-to-party exchanges and international and regional issues of common concern.
