Tokyo, May 29th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Natsuo Yamaguchi, Leader of Japan’s Komeito Party.

Liu said, since its establishment 60 years ago, the Komeito Party has practiced the "Golden Bridge" spirit and played a positive role in building a good political atmosphere between China and Japan. After the meeting between the leaders of the two countries in San Francisco last year, Mr.Yamaguchi led a Komeito Party delegation to visit China and had in-depth exchanges with the Chinese side on how to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. The Chinese side appreciates this. Currently, China-Japan relations are at a critical stage of improvement and development. The CPC is willing to maintain close exchanges with the Komeito Party, strengthen exchanges between young politicians, and promote deeper and more solid communication and cooperation between the two sides in all fields and at all levels. It is hoped that the Komeito Party will help Japan view China's development objectively and rationally, properly handle issues such as the Taiwan question and the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean and work with the Chinese side to safeguard peace, stability and development in the region.

Natsuo Yamaguchi said, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and President Xi Jinping reached the important consensus during their meeting in San Francisco last November. Not long ago, heads of the two governments had in-depth exchanges in Seoul. He said, I am very pleased to lead the Komeito Party delegation to successfully visit China at the end of last year. Japan and China need to strengthen communication and dialogue, enhance mutual trust, bring the two peoples closer to each other, promote cooperation in various fields for tangible results, and at the same time gradually solve the problems existing between the two countries. The Komeito Party is willing to inherit Daisaku Ikeda’s legacy and build more “golden bridges” of friendship between Japan and China.

The meeting was also attended by Keiichi Ishii, Secretary General of the Komeito Party, and Makoto Nishida, Chair of the Board of Directors for the House of Councilors.
