Dhaka, June 24th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Hasan Mahmud, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and Foreign Minister of Bangladesh.
Liu stated that China and Bangladesh are traditional friendly neighbors. Under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, China-Bangladesh relations have maintained high-level development. The bilateral relations are built not only on broad-based interests, but also on shared values and common goals. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the Bangladeshi side to effectively implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, enhance high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic alignment within the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and South-South cooperation, promote practical cooperation in various fields, expand cultural exchanges, give each other firm support on issues concerning respective core interests, closely coordinate and cooperate on multilateral affairs, and uplift the China-Bangladesh strategic partnership of cooperation to a new height. Together, both sides aim to uphold regional peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
Liu expressed that the CPC and the AL boast a long history of friendly exchanges, which have played an important role in promoting the development of bilateral relations. As ruling parties of respective countries, both sides should strengthen exchanges, enhance strategic communication, deepen experience exchanges and mutual learning on party governance and state administration, and better promote the development of respective party and national causes.
Mahmud expressed that the Bangladesh-China friendship was forged by the older generation of leaders from both countries. Bangladeshi founding father Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited China twice at the beginning of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, steadfastly pursuing a friendly policy towards China. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inherited her father’s legacy and continues to promote Bangladesh-China friendship. Bangladesh regards China as one of its most important development partners and is willing to further strengthen high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, expand cooperation in infrastructure construction, medicine, agricultural product import and export, and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest and establish businesses in Bangladesh. The AL cherishes its friendly relations with the CPC, hopes to enhance inter-party exchanges, learn from and draw on the governance experience of the CPC, enhance governance capacity, and further consolidate the friendly relations between the two parties and countries.
Both sides also conducted in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional issues.
