Liu Jianchao Meets with Badr Abdelatty, Egyptian Foreign Minister

Beijing, December 13th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Badr Abdelatty, Egyptian Foreign Minister. 

   

Liu said, in recent years, President Xi Jinping and President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi have drawn up a blueprint for the further development of China-Egypt relations. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Egyptian side to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continue to firmly support each other on issues involving respective core interests, deepen the docking of development strategies, expand practical cooperation in various fields under the framework of the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and promote the building of a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era. China and Egypt are both major developing countries and members of the Global South. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Egyptian side to further enhance the voice and influence of developing countries and better safeguard the common interests of the Global South.    

Liu said, the inter-party exchanges between China and Egypt have played a positive role in deepening concept exchange, promoting practical cooperation, and facilitating people-to-people bonds between the two countries. The CPC is willing to carry out political and strategic dialogues with all political parties in Egypt, expand exchanges between think tanks and youth, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation, continuously deepen mutual understanding, and work together to implement the Global Civilization Initiative.    

Abdelatty said, the Egyptian side cherishes its friendship with China, calling bilateral relations strong and powerful. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Egypt-China comprehensive strategic partnership. President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi paid a successful visit to China in May and had strategic communication with President Xi Jinping on further developing Egypt-China relations. The Egyptian side is ready to work with the Chinese side to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, strengthen exchanges between political parties, parliaments, think tanks and youth, and expand practical cooperation in new energy industry and electric vehicles. The Egyptian side firmly adheres to the one-China principle, which is a long-term and consistent position of the Egyptian government. It was the Cairo Declaration more than 80 years ago that established the one-China principle. The Egyptian side speaks highly of the Chinese side's position of fairness and justice in international affairs, thanks the Chinese side for supporting Egypt in joining the BRICS, and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Chinese side within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the BRICS. 

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern, such as the situation in the Middle East.
