London, June 10th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with David Lammy, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the UK.
Liu expressed that last year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Keir Starmer held phone calls and meetings, charting the course for the improvement and development of bilateral relations. Since the beginning of this year, bilateral relations have shown the momentum of improvement as exchanges in various fields between the two countries have been resumed, and institutional dialogues have been restarted. In the context of increasing global challenges, a healthy and stable China-UK relationship is in the interests of both countries and the world. China is willing to work with the UK to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen high-level exchanges, engage in in-depth dialogues, expand consensus, focus on cooperation, and continue to promote forward-looking development of bilateral relations. At present, profound changes unseen in a century are accelerating. Both China and the UK advocate and practice free trade, adhere to multilateralism, and should enhance multilateral coordination. China thanks the UK for providing convenience for China-US economic and trade consultation.
Lammy noted that since the beginning of this year, the UK and China have held economic and financial dialogue, strategic dialogue, and energy dialogue. We are very satisfied with the development momentum of UK-China relations. The UK is committed to working with China to develop stable, consistent and robust UK-China relations in the long term on the basis of mutual respect. Both sides should seize the opportunity to strengthen cooperation in various fields. Upholding free trade, the UK is pleased to provide support for China-US economic and trade consultation. We hope for success in the consultation.
The two sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional issues.
