From May 25th to 26th, the BRICS Think Tank International Symposium with the theme of "green BRICS, golden future" was held at Renmin University of China. The symposium was jointly organized by the China Council for BRICS Think Tank Cooperation (CCBTC) and Renmin University of China. Jin Xin, Assistant-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary-General of the CCBTC, and Zhang Donggang, Party Secretary of Renmin University of China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. A total of over 100 representatives from think tanks of 19 BRICS members and partner countries, as well as representatives from some developed countries and international organizations, attended the symposium and engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as green development paths, green cooperation mechanisms, green technology standards, and South-North cooperation.

Jin said, President Xi Jinping's advocacy for building green BRICS conforms to the trend of the times for BRICS countries and other developing countries to explore green development paths and points out an important direction for deepening greater BRICS cooperation in the future. As an important platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries, BRICS countries should strengthen unity and cooperation, play a leading role, and actively advocate global cooperation in promoting low-carbon transformation and green development. BRICS think tanks should strengthen green consensus, enhance policy research, deepen practical cooperation, and jointly demonstrate the wisdom of the Global South to build a clean, beautiful, and sustainable world.

Zhang said, Renmin University of China has been deeply involved in building an academic system, disciplinary system, and discourse system for ecological civilization, contributing wisdom to global green development. As a co-chair of the CCBTC, Renmin University of China will build a new type of high-end think tank that integrates "government, industry, academia, research, and application", pool the consensus on green development concepts, expand green cooperation platforms, and serve green transformation and development, making greater contributions to the high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation.

The representatives at the symposium believed that BRICS countries and Global South countries share common responsibilities and missions in promoting global green transformation and should turn their common vision into action to help the international community achieve a fair, just, and balanced green development transformation. At the meeting, Chinese and foreign representatives  launched the Global South Joint Research Project on Green Cooperation and unveiled the Green Cooperation Workstation.
