Beijing, July 22nd—The China-Italy political dialogue was held here today with the theme of "strengthening China-Italy political party dialogue: common development and shared responsibilities". Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the event and delivered a speech. About 80 people attended the event, including representatives from Chinese ministries and commissions, local governments, think tanks, and business circles, as well as Italian parliamentarians, business and cultural figures, and diplomats from the Italian Embassy in China.
Lu said, this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy. Over the past 55 years, as comprehensive strategic partners, China and Italy have always treated each other as equals, supported each other, and adhered to opening-up, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results in the economic and trade fields. As outstanding representatives of Eastern and Western civilizations, the two countries have always appreciated each other and learned from each other. In the face of changes unseen in a century and many global challenges, all sectors of China and Italy, including political parties, should make positive contributions to maintaining world peace, development, security and prosperity. The dialogue aims to focus on common challenges through inter-party exchanges and dialogues, exploring solutions together. Both sides should be defenders of international fairness and justice, promoters of mutual respect and trust between China and the European Union (EU), contributors to world economic growth, and practitioners of harmonious coexistence among different civilizations, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
The Italian side said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and China, the Italy-China relationship has maintained a sound development trend. Last year, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella visited China successively, and the two countries signed a three-year action plan to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership, injecting new impetus into bilateral cooperation in various fields. 2025 also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the EU and China. As a major member state of the EU, Italy supports the EU and China in enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening partnership through dialogue, making cooperation the main theme of EU-China relations. In the face of a complex and volatile international situation, especially the risks and challenges brought by trade wars, Italy is willing to work with China to enhance the status and role of the United Nations, defend multilateralism and an open and inclusive international economic order. Political parties of Italy and China should continue to strengthen political dialogue and contribute wisdom and consensus of political parties to the development of Italy-China and EU-China relations as well as the peaceful development of the world.
