Kunming, October 11th—The 10th China-South and Southeast Asian Think Tank Forum, themed "Joining Hands for a Shared Path to Modernization", was held here today. The forum was jointly organized by the Global South Think Tanks Alliance and the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences/China (Kunming) Academy of South and Southeast Asian Studies. Jin Xin, Assistant-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. More than 200 political leaders, experts and scholars from 17 countries attended the forum and engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the Global Development Initiative and the path to modernization, the Global Civilization Initiative and exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and digital economy and security cooperation.
Jin said, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 10th anniversary of the proposal of building an Asian community with a shared future. A shared path to modernization is an inherent meaning and inevitable path to building an Asian community with a shared future. Asian think tanks should draw nourishment from the region's excellent traditional culture and contemporary practices, and conduct in-depth research on four issues: how to better promote regional integration, creating an Asian security model, exploring diverse paths to modernization, and supporting each other in improving governance capabilities. Asian think tanks should strive to make Asia a demonstration area for implementing the four major global initiatives, provide more Asian wisdom for the shared modernization of the Global South, and make greater Asian contributions to promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
The participants said, China and South and Southeast Asian countries are connected by mountains and rivers and share a common destiny. Against the backdrop of accelerating changes unseen in a century, China and South and Southeast Asian countries should join hands and move forward together, exploring diverse paths to modernization based on our own national conditions. The participants emphasized that the four major global initiatives proposed by China provide new public goods for the international community and inject new impetus into promoting regional common development and achieving mutual benefit and win-win results. Asian think tanks should deepen exchanges and cooperation and jointly provide solid intellectual support for the implementation of the four major global initiatives.
