CPC goodwill delegation attended SI Council meeting

BEIJING, Feb. 6 -- At the invitation of the Socialist International, the CPC goodwill delegation led by Vice-Minister Liu Jieyi of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee attended the two-day Council meeting of the SI held in Cascais of Portugal. The meeting closed on the 5th.

When he addressed the meeting, Liu Jieyi briefed the participants on China's development goals defined on the 18th National Congress of the CPC and corresponding policy measures and about China's view on the world economic situation. As it picks up pace to transform its growth model and deepens reform and opening-up, China will realize a development at a higher level and with better quality, which in turn will help the world economy to grow in a robust, sustainable and balanced manner, emphasized the Vice-Minister.

During the meeting, Liu met respectively with the SI President and former Prime Minister of Greece George Papandreou and President of the Socialist Party of Portugal Maria de Belém Roseira. He introduced to both party leaders the gist of the CPC's recent Congress. The Vice-Minister highlighted the meaning of the sustainable and healthy growth of the Chinese economy to the world looking for opportunities of mutually beneficial cooperation. Liu also stressed the value the CPC attaches to the strategic dialogues with the SI and its member parties with a view to furthering exchanges on governance experience and cooperation on international affairs. Such engagement will contribute to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development, said Liu Jieyi.

Papandreou and Roseira both believe that the development blueprint for China drawn in the 18th CPC Congress conforms to the fundamental interests of the Chinese people and bears great and positive significance to the rest of the world as well. The SI and the Portuguese Socialist Party are willing to step up dialogues with the CPC, come up with ways to cope with global challenges together and contribute to the well-being of people around the world.

This Council meeting is hosted by the Socialist Party of Portugal under the main heading "The World Economy: Our Vision for Growth, Jobs and Sustainable Development".
