BEIJING, March 6 -- Vice-minister Liu Jieyi of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee met on the 6th with Mogens Lykketoft, speaker of the Folketing (the Danish national parliament), at the request of the latter. The Danish speaker and former leader of the Danish Social Democrats was leading a delegation of the Parliament Presidium for a stop-over visit in Beijing.

Liu Jieyi spoke highly of the relations between China and Denmark both at the government and the political party level. He said the Communist Party of China is ready to step up exchanges with the major political parties in the Danish Parliament so as to enhance mutual understanding between people of the two countries and promote pragmatic cooperation in different fields. Liu also briefed the guest on the main idea of the 18th National Congress of the CPC and the current sessions of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He underlined that China's making effort to speedily form a new pattern of growth in the coming 5 to 10 years which pays more attention to the balance between economic and social development. There will be new opportunities for cooperation between China and Denmark and the two sides need to make joint effort to achieve results from such cooperation, said the vice-minister.

Lykketoft said party-to-party exchanges are an important channel for relations between Denmark and China and he looks forward to further engagement between political parties on the two sides thus bringing benefit to both peoples. Denmark cherishes its relations with China and is willing to seize the opportunities presented by China's development and facilitate cooperation between the two countries in various areas so as to attain a win-win development.

The Presidium of the Folketing is composed of the speaker and four deputy speakers. The four deputy speakers represent respectively the Liberals, the People's Party, the Social Liberal Party and the Socialist People's Party. The CPC maintains friendly relations of exchange with the Danish Social Democrats and the Socialist People's Party.
