BEIJING, May 8 -- Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with the delegation of political leaders of Pacific Island countries led by Agafili Patisela Eteuati Tolovaa, deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Samoa and Lord Havea Tuihaateiho, deputy speaker of the Parliament of Tonga.
Wang Jiarui spoke highly of the relations between China and Pacific Island countries. In recent years, China and Pacific Island countries have enjoyed a sound momentum of relations and, as a sincere friend and partner for cooperation, China is willing to continue deepening practical cooperation with Pacific Island countries in various fields so as to realize common development and benefit the peoples on both sides, said the vice-chairman.
Deputy Speaker Tolovaa and Deputy Speaker Tuihaateiho both agreed that relations with China are high on the agenda of the Pacific Island countries. They are committed to the One-China policy and are grateful for the selfless support and assistance China has rendered to their countries over the years. They are willing to step up the friendly cooperation with China in different areas and lift such relations to a new level.
The delegation is paying a visit to China at the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
