Singapore, July 24th—Lawrence Wong, Secretary-General of the People's Action Party (PAP) and Prime Minister of Singapore, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
Lawrence Wong said, Singapore-China relations are enjoying sound development momentum. Last month, I paid an official visit to China and successfully met with Chinese leaders such as President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, reaching important consensus on further developing bilateral relations. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and China. Singapore is willing to closely engage with China at all levels and deepen cooperation through mechanisms such as the Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation and the delegation exchange mechanism between the two Parties to promote better development of bilateral relations. The world today is undergoing both transformation and upheaval, presenting challenges to both Singapore and China. Singapore hopes to strengthen collaboration with China, expand trilateral cooperation, promote regional cooperation processes, and jointly maintain the rules-based international system. Both the PAP and the CPC are long-ruling parties. We hope that the two Parties will enhance ideological exchanges, jointly explore issues such as increasing employment and handling the relationship between the market and the government, improve decision-making capabilities, promote long-term and stable development of both countries, and continuously enhance the well-being of the two peoples.
Liu congratulated the Republic of Singapore on its 60th anniversary of founding. Liu said, under the joint guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Singapore relations have been constantly keeping pace with the times and have been upgraded to an all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership, which is a true reflection of the strategic cooperation achievements and high-level relations between the two countries. Neighboring countries are a priority of China's diplomacy. China adheres to the path of peaceful development and is willing to further enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen development integration and maintain regional stability with Singapore and other ASEAN countries, and work together to build our shared home well. In the face of an ever-changing world, China is willing to strengthen strategic communication with Singapore, jointly uphold open regionalism and true multilateralism, actively promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, maintain the stability and smoothness of the global industrial and supply chains, and promote a mutually beneficial and inclusive economic globalization. China is willing to strengthen unity and cooperation with all countries, especially the Global South countries, and provide more stability, certainty and predictability to the world with its own stable development.
Liu said, the CPC and the PAP share similar governance philosophies and have much in common. Last year, the two parties established and launched the delegation exchange mechanism, marking a new stage in the exchanges between the ruling parties of China and Singapore. The profound changes in the international order pose challenges to the development of political parties in all countries. As ruling parties, the two Parties have the responsibility to strengthen leadership, respond to the demands of the people, and deepen mutual learning and exchanges in party building and state governance. The CPC is willing to deepen political dialogue with the PAP on common concerns, enhance exchanges and cooperation at all levels, and strengthen mutual understanding and friendship to effectively improve our abilities to respond to risks and challenges and govern and rejuvenate the country. Liu also introduced the CPC's efforts in strengthening Party conduct and the CPC's education campaign to implement the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving work conduct, China's efforts in further deepening reforms comprehensively, formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan and other issues.
The two sides also exchanged views on the international and regional situations.
Cao Zhongming, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, was present.
