Liu Haixing Meets with a Delegation of PSD

Beijing, December 12thLiu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with a delegation of Social Democratic Party (PSD) of Portugal led by Hugo Soares, Secretary-General and the Parliamentary Leader of the PSD. 


Liu said, China and Portugal has a long-standing friendship. The two countries properly resolved the Macao issue through friendly consultations, setting a model for the peaceful resolution of historical issues. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Portugal. In September, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro during his visit to China, charting the course for the future development of China-Portugal relations. The CPC is willing to work with the PSD to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both sides, strengthen exchanges and dialogue at all levels, enhance mutual understanding and support, promote cooperation in trade, investment, culture, sports, and other fields, and promote the healthy and stable development of China-Portugal and China-Europe relations. 


Soares said he was pleased to visit China for the first time, and China's development achievements had left a deep impression on him. Emphasizing the traditional friendship between Portugal and China, he said Portugal firmly adheres to the one-China policy and supports the "one country, two systems" practice in Macao. Portugal hopes to work with China to intensify economic and trade ties, increasing two-way investment, and promote economic globalization, so as to achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win results. He added that the PSD highly values its friendly relations with the CPC and is willing to continuously deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two Parties to enrich the content of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
