Beijing, April 23 – The thematic seminar "International perspectives on the CPC: The CPC’s Role in advancing the modernization of the Global South" was held here today. Ma Hui, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Hong Dayong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and addressed the event. The seminar was co-hosted by the China Center for Contemporary World Studies of the IDCPC the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. Experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Tsinghua University, National Defense University, Beijing Normal University, and Beijing Foreign Studies University, together with representatives from think tanks in 11 South and Southeast Asian countries, such as Pakistan, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam, were present, engaging in in-depth discussions on the CPC’s role in promoting the modernization of the Global South.
Ma said that modernization is the common pursuit of the Global South countries. The CPC and the Chinese government have provided the Global South with ideological references, practical support and market opportunities for modernization through theoretical and practical innovations. China firmly opposes U.S. abuse of tariffs as it undermines the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South countries and international fairness and justice. President Xi Jinping's successful visit to the three Southeast Asian countries has great and far-reaching significance for deepening good-neighborly friendly cooperation and promoting the building of a community with a shared future with neighboring countries. China is willing to work hand in hand with South and Southeast Asian countries to make the respective modernization undertakings with distinct features converge into a torrent of the times for world prosperity and progress.
Hong noted, to understand China and Chinese modernization, we must first understand the CPC. Chinese modernization is a great historical process guided by Marxism of contemporary China. It is the socialist modernization led by the CPC, a social transformation guided by self-reform, and the modernization following the path of peaceful development. President Xi Jinping's visit to the three Southeast Asian countries will ensure the more stable development of cooperation between China and South Asia and Southeast Asia. In the process of continuously promoting the modernization of the Global South, we hope that think tanks in various countries will give better play to their own advantages and characteristics, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and contribute wisdom and strength.
Scholars from South Asia and Southeast Asia believed that the CPC has not only changed China, but also helped the world, calling it a trustworthy partner. The Global South can learn from China's practice of state governance and administration, and achieve an overall leap in modernization.
