Beijing, December 1st—The China-EU Young Politicians Dialogue was held here today. The two sides had candid and in-depth exchanges on the theme of "building a more strategic and forward-looking China-EU relationship—the responsibility of young political leaders". Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the dialogue and delivered a keynote speech. Relevant officials from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, and the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, as well as over 40 representatives from both China and abroad, including Filippo Scerra, a Member of Parliament from the Italian Five Star Movement, Ourania Svigkou, the international secretary of Syriza of Greece, and Chrysanthos Zannettou, Member of the Political Bureau of the Progressive Party of Working People of Cyprus, along with political leaders, parliamentarians, and local young politicians from several European countries attended the event.

The Chinese side said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union (EU), as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN). As two major forces in the world, the more turbulent the international situation becomes, the more China and the EU should be partners rather than rivals, deepen cooperation instead of building fences and barriers, and jointly shoulder multilateral responsibilities instead of succumbing to the law of the jungle. China is willing to work with the EU to uphold true and effective multilateralism, safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and jointly address global challenges such as climate change, making greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind. The fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee adopted the Recommendations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, clearly stating that the theme of development is to promote high-quality growth, accelerate the green transition in all areas of economic and social development, and expand high-level opening up. This will provide more cooperation opportunities for the EU, which is committed to green and digital transformation, and create new impetus for high-level mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the EU. Young politicians are a key force for China-EU relations to build on past achievements and work for fresh progress. They should promote mutual understanding between China and the EU, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and contribute to world peace and development. With the strength of youth, they should make contributions of the times and jointly open up a brighter future for China-EU relations in the next 50 years.
The EU side stated that over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-EU relationship has withstood the tests of international changes and have developed into one of the most important and influential bilateral partnerships. Dialogue and cooperation have become a strategic choice for both sides. As the world's two large economies, how China-EU relations develop not only affects our own prosperity and security but also the peace and stability of the world. Both Europe and China, located at the two ends of the Eurasian continent, have ancient and splendid civilizations. Both sides should unite and cooperate, learn from each other, and develop together, contributing to world peace and development. Young political leaders from China and the EU should enhance dialogue and exchanges, increase mutual understanding and trust, and promote the establishment of a more stable and sound China-EU relationship.
