Li Mingxiang Visits Botswana

From December 10th to 12th, Li Mingxiang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), led an IDCPC delegation to visit Botswana. During the visit, Li met with Dithapelo Keorapetse, Speaker of the National Assembly of Botswana, and Moeti Mohwasa, member of the National Executive Committee of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and Minister for State President, Defence and Security of Botswana. He also held a briefing on the spirit of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee for representatives of Botswana's political parties, think tanks and media. Tao Lili, Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Botswana, attended the above-mentioned activities. 

Li said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Over the past 50 years, China-Botswana relations have withstood the test of international changes and maintained a good momentum of development, becoming good friends who treat each other as equals and good partners who develop together. The CPC is willing to work with the UDC to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, firmly support each other, enhance high-level exchanges and strategic communication, and strengthen exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration to promote the in-depth development of the strategic partnership between the two countries. 




Keorapetse said, over the past 50 years, the relations between the two countries have deepened continuously and cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results, greatly benefiting the people of both countries. Botswana will always adhere to the one-China principle and this position will never change. Botswana is willing to actively align its development strategy with that of China, deepen exchanges and cooperation, and walk the path of modernization hand in hand with China. Mohwasa said, China is a good friend and partner of Botswana on its path of development and rejuvenation. The UDC looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with the CPC, learning from the experience of the CPC in party building and state governance, and improving its governance capacity, so as to constantly push the relations between the two countries to a new level. 

Li gave a detailed introduction to the spirit of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee to all sectors of Botswana, and systematically expounded the main goals and six guiding principles that must be followed for China's economic and social development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). He stated that the plenary session has made strategic plans for China's economic and social development in the next five years, which will bring more opportunities for cooperation between China and Botswana in various fields. China is willing to align the 15th Five-Year Plan with Botswana's National Development Plan 12 and Economic Transformation Programme, promote the quality and efficiency of China-Botswana cooperation, and better benefit the people of both countries. 


Highly speaking of the great achievements of Chinese modernization, the Botswanian side said, China's stable economic growth is of great significance to the world economy, and China's high-quality development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) will inject stability into the world and bring new opportunities for practical cooperation between China and Botswana. Botswana looks forward to riding the express train of China's high-quality development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), further deepening practical cooperation in trade, economy, infrastructure, investment and other fields, and achieving Botswana's national development goals as soon as possible.
