Beijing, May 29th—The Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament held here today on the afternoon the 13th dialogue between Chinese and European scholars, under the theme of "cooperation > competition: China and Europe join hands to inject more stability into the world." Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), attended and addressed the dialogue.

Lu said, the international situation is increasingly turbulent, with growing conflicts and confrontations. As two major forces, two large markets and two great civilizations, China and Europe have significant practical significance and far-reaching influence in pursuing cooperation.

Lu noted, President Xi Jinping proposed building four major partnerships for peace, growth, reform and civilization between China and the European Union (EU). China hopes that the EU will adhere to the partnership positioning, properly manage competition and cooperation, deepen practical cooperation, and inject new impetus into the four major China-EU partnerships. As 2026 marks the launch of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, China is ready to share development opportunities with the EU and promote the long-term, healthy and stable development of China-EU relations.

The dialogue was attended by representatives from European think tanks in Italy, France and other countries, as well as officials and scholars from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China Institute of International Studies, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, and Academy of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Participants noted that the current international landscape is complex and volatile, with growing instability and uncertainty worldwide. Humanity shares a common destiny, and mutual respect, openness and cooperation, and mutual benefit represent the right path of the times. They spoke positively of the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and called on China and Europe to deepen cooperation, jointly safeguard the authority of the United Nations, and inject greater stability and certainty into the international community.
