Beijing, June 10th — Ma Hui, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Géza von Geyr, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

Ma said that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Germany relations have enjoyed a sound momentum lately, with bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation expanding steadily. China stands ready to work with Germany to deliver on the consensus reached by the two heads of state, highlight the positioning of the China-Germany comprehensive strategic partnership, focus on common interests and cooperation opportunities, deepen mutually beneficial win-win cooperation between the two sides, and jointly uphold multilateralism and free trade to boost the growth of China-Germany relations, and deliver greater benefits to people of the two countries and the world at large. China and Europe share far more common interests than differences and frictions. A string of restrictive measures rolled out by the EU institutions targeting economic and trade cooperation with China harms no one but themselves. It is hoped that Germany will play an active role in encouraging the EU to resolve differences and disputes with China in a constructive manner. Political parties in China and Germany maintain close exchanges. China is ready to further strengthen exchanges and dialogue with all German political parties, and steer the sound and steady growth of China-Germany and China-Europe relations through inter-party cooperation.
Géza von Geyr said that amid a complex and volatile global landscape, Germany attaches great importance to joining hands with China in tackling global challenges. Germany respects China’s system and development path, and is ready to conduct candid and open dialogue with China on the basis of mutual respect. Inter-party exchanges play a vital role in Germany-China relations, helping both sides deepen understanding and mutual trust. He expected inter-party communication to make bigger contributions to advancing bilateral relations and resolving international hotspot issues. The EU member states generally hope to enhance the competitiveness of the European economy and industries, while continuing to support free trade and open cooperation as always.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, the Middle East situation and other matters. Ma elaborated on China’s position on the Taiwan question.
